Here's a scene from Act II of Hood, of Sherwood, a play @ the college that I helped with. It's a children's show being performed this week & next, twice for audiences of children, which are the best. :) We had a final practice tonight & it was one of the best rehearsals yet. It's so funny. I'm announcing the show on Friday night & am a bit nervous. Keep it simple, keep it simple.Wednesday, April 29, 2009

Finished a book today
Three guesses what this picture is about. No, no, no. Okay, I'll tell you, indirectly. Firstly, today I finished a book called "Looking for Anne of Green Gables" by Irene Gammel. I'm into reading biographies lately, especially biographies of authors. George Macdonald is another author I'm learning about & I'd like to look Charlotte Bronte up next. Lucy Maud Montgomery's creation of Anne Shirley is the latest, though. She had a way of distilling all of her optimisim & sweet memories & pouring them into her books, though her own life wasn't as rosy as Anne's. The picture at the left inspired L.M. Montgomery in her writing of Anne. Surprising? Hmm...For more by this author, I recommend "The Blue Castle" and the Emily trilogy, "Emily of New Moon," "Emily Climbs," and "Emily's Quest."

Portland, painting pottery, puttering in IKEA & a puppy

This weekend we went to Portland to spend time with some friends. Since Andrew & his friend Andrew (there are so many of those) are musically inclined, their friend Andrew...just kidding...their friend Jake recruited them to play their instruments for a worship gig @ his church. The youth group at this church was doing a 30 Famine event & so Andrew (2)'s wife LaRyn & I tagged along with our musical husbands. It was really great; we met up with friends Nate (drummer) and Bethany (Nate's wife). May I say it is wonderful to see my Andre
w flourish in his gifts & to have friends who draw those gifts out of him. Being able to witness that is...a privilege. Love it.So Andrew, Andrew, Jake, Nate, and Erin (Jake's fiance) led worship & it was really wonderful. They played "Grace Like Rain." :)
We travellers stayed at Nate & Bethany's and stayed up late. They have a puppy named Jameson. I have not had much exposure to puppies; kittens have garnered my "oh cute" responses up till now. PUPPIES ARE ADORABLE! Such energy! Such soft fur! Such reckless playfulness...Jameson attacked Nate & Bethany's other dog & it was hilarious.
Next day (Saturday) Andrew, Andrew, & Nate jammed on their electric guitars & drums, working on their metal music, whilst we wives painted pottery at one of those places (Erin! You understand. Mom, too!). It was very fun since Bethany, LaRyn & I are all artistically inclined. The painting & company was very enjoyable, but as I was putting double mint glaze on my vase I was thinking, "I get to see AJ soon. My favorite person. I'm so excited!" :)
Before embarking
on the drive home, we galavanted over to IKEA (allowing a couple of hours, of course). Ironically, the girls had all experienced IKEA before, the guys had not. They were very good sports while we walked through the entire store, I raving about the colors. Color is one of my favorite things about IKEA's merchandise.

That night, back at home, Andrew & I put up our new shower curtain & laid out our new bath mat. Yellow. COLOR IN THE BATHROOM! Finally! It's nice.Good weekend, full of time with friends & people we like. And it was spent with my favorite person. :)

Five Months
Today we have been married five months, Andrew and I. Five is a number that has been significant in my life. Like the time I wasn't sure about going to Mexico, and I wondered if God cared about what I was going to do the summer of 2007. At that moment of breakdown on the couch, Leslee asked how much money my I had raised in support up to that point, I did quick addition in my head and said, "Five hundred fifty five. Oh. Five, five, five. Grace. Grace, grace, grace." Because five is a number associated with grace, perhaps, I've been told, to signify the five wounds Jesus had on His body when He died. His two hands, two feet, and side. $555.00 communicated grace then, as has 5:55 on the clock, several times, even my desire to have at least 5 children, and now, five months of marriage.
Don't know how to tie this up neatly because I could get quite mushy and sentimental (there will be times for that, after all, I did grow up on Anne of Green Gables), but think I shouldn't now. Maybe after five years. Five children. Five addresses. Five decades.
